This is another one from epicurious, with a few changes.... I know that this recipe seems strange but it is sooo good. If you love sushi, wasabi or seared tuna, you will love this!! The key to this recipe is a very thing crispy crust..... don't use the pre-cooked crust from the grocery store, they will be too thick. Buying pizza dough will work if you don't want the hassle of making pizza dough, just remember to press it out THIN! I added more wasabi to the sauce that was left just prior to serving because I love extra wasabi.
Pizza Dough: make using the recipe way down below (1/2 recipe) or buy pre-made dough (not pre-cooked) To easily find my pizza dough recipe, press control and the letter F at the same time, a text box will pop up that the bottom of the screen, type pizza into it and it will take you there.
Wasabi sauce:
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons purchased prepared wasabi (from sushi counter)
2 teaspoons minced peeled fresh ginger
Topping:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup babybella, shitake or crimini mushrooms (or a combo)
1/2 red onion, sliced
1-inch-thick ahi tuna steak (14 to 16 ounces)
Olive oil
Chopped green onions
For sauce:
Combine soy sauce, oil, and wasabi in medium bowl; whisk until blended. Whisk in ginger. Season sauce to taste with pepper.
Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 400°F. Cook pizza dough until crispy. You can make one big pizza or several small ones.
Roll out 2 dough rounds to 8-inch diameter rounds (dough will be about 1/8 inch thick). Brush each generously with wasabi sauce.
Sprinkle heated baking sheet in oven lightly with flour. Transfer dough rounds to sheet. Bake crusts until golden on top and crisp on bottom, piercing large bubbles with fork if necessary, about 10 minutes Transfer to plates. Repeat with remaining 2 dough rounds.
Meanwhile, prepare topping:
add 1 tablespoon olive oil to skillet and warm over medium heat, add onions and mushrooms and saute until they get soft. Set aside and keep warm.
Brush tuna steak with olive oil; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Heat cast iron skillet over high heat. Add tuna. Sear until brown outside, but still pink inside, about 3 minutes per side.
Transfer tuna to work surface. Slice thinly. Sprinkle pizza dough with mushrooms and onions an then arrange tuna on each pizza crust. Drizzle with wasabi sauce and sprinkle with chopped green onions. Serve, passing remaining wasabi sauce separately ( I added more wasabi to this sauce).
