HALF MOON COOKIES

My Grandma always used to make these cookies.... While I have many of her recipes, unfortunately I never got her recipe for these cookies before she died. So, I had to look elsewhere. I found this recipe, exactly as listed here, from Martha Stewart. Except she calls them Black and White Cookies.

COOKIES
3 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 sticks butter (10 tbsp) room temp
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup plus 3 tbsp sugar
2 eggs
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp vanilla
1/4 cup heavy cream

ICING
1 cup heavy cream
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
5 tablespoons cocoa powder
6 tbsp boiling water

To make cookies:
preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper (or use cooking spray). In a bowl. whisk flour, sods, powder and salt. Set aside.

In bowl of electric mixer, beat butter, shortening and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add eggs and yolk beating after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Add flour mixture in two additions, alternating with cream. Beat until just combined, do not over beat.

Use a 1/4 cup measuring cup and scoop dough 3" apart on prepared cookie sheet. Bake 10 - 12 minutes. Transfer to cooling rack and cool completely.

To make icing:
Combine cream and sugar and whisk until smooth. Set aside 1 1/4 cups for white icing. Combine cocoa powder and water. Add to remaining frosting for chocolate. If icing gets too thick, re-warm slowly.

Frost bottom side of each cookie, half white and half chocolate. Set cookies aside until icing is set.
